Relating to God, studying the Bible, leading worship, talking with people about their spiritual questions, caring for people who are hurting, celebrating with people in their joys, and assisting people through major life passages is what I get to do every day of my life. It is not a job, it is a calling. I began fulfilling this call through my ministry with First Baptist Church in September 2012, after having served others congregations in Virginia and North Carolina for over thirty years.

I have a passion for Christians and the church to grow as followers of Christ and to offer an authentic and relevant testimony of God’s grace to others through their personal lives. I try to model that by volunteering and collaborating with other ministers, congregations, civic partners, and organizations throughout our community to create a better life for us all.

My formal education includes the Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion from Campbell University, the Master of Divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and the Doctor of Ministry degree from Campbell University Divinity School. I have pursued continuing education in the areas of congregational conflict resolution, personal and business coaching, and the work of a pastor as spiritual guide.

My wife Shirley and I are the proud parents of four grown children, have two beautiful grandchildren, and a very spoiled dog named Bella. We feel fortunate to be in community with the wonderful people of FBC Henderson.

In my spare time I enjoy playing high-handicap golf (how I wish it could be different), working in my yard, cooking, following my favorite sports teams, or reading a good thriller. Oh, and I do adore a hot cup of good coffee. So plan to stop by some time and let’s chat. I will keep the pot hot!
