Amy Starr Russell, Associate Minister
From a child who believed that Jesus lived in the steeple of the church (the man upstairs!) to an undergrad boldly proclaiming I would never attend seminary, it has been a journey of curves and hills leading to First Baptist Church. I joined the staff of FBC in September of 2013 as the Associate Minister. In this role, I am able to join in FBC’s long history of loving and serving the Henderson community. I have the privilege of being invested in the lives of our high school youth and I seek to continue to provide opportunities for Christian formation for all ages at FBC.
Through my lifelong experience in the church and my training as a seminarian at Wake Forest University School of Divinity, I believe the Gospel to be about lifelong transformation through our relationships with each other and our relationship with God. We are all uniquely gifted for the work of doing life together and I believe being a minister means helping each person to discover their God-given gifts.
Outside of my time at First Baptist, I enjoy time around the fire with friends and family, reading a good book, a game of tennis, and playing with my two dogs, Sadie and Minnie Mae. While an undergrad at Gardner-Webb University, I met my husband, Brandon, a minister and a student currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling. We love calling Henderson home!
