Preschool Ministry
In addition to age-appropriate Sunday School classes for preschoolers and kindergarteners, First Baptist also offers opportunities for preschool worship and faith formation in children’s church, preschool music activity, and in Mission Friends.
In Children’s church, four and five year olds join with the full congregation in the sanctuary during the first part of each worship service. Just prior to the sermon, they are invited to leave with adult and youth volunteers to enter a space designed especially for them and their exposure to the worshipping life of First Baptist. Our children’s church room is set up like a mini-church with pews, an altar table, and a pulpit. Children get to put on robes and stoles like the ministers, choir members, and acolytes. They can spend their time collecting offerings like our deacons, lighting candles like the acolytes, leading worship from the pulpit, or listening to music from our congregation as they play instruments and join the choirs. A closed-circuit monitor is also a feature of this room so that children may observe the remainder of the morning worship service as they “play” church.
Mission Friends is an after-school program of faith formation designed especially for pre-K and kindergarten students. Mission Friends time, a snack, playground time, and Preschool Music Activity combine to make up our after-school program for preschoolers on Tuesday afternoons. A complete schedule and downloadable permission form are available here.
