Missions Education
Mission Education Announcements
| It is important to the congregation of First Baptist to prepare our people to go and serve in the name of Christ. Missions education is provided for members of all ages.
Mission Friends
Mission Friends is a fun and educational time for preschoolers and kindergarteners ages 4-5. The class uses Form, the preschool missions curriculum published by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. This new curriculum helps teachers as they lay the very basic foundations of missions awareness and understanding and as they help form preschoolers' ideas about God, others, and the world around them. The goal of Mission Friends is that preschoolers develop awareness of God's love for themselves, while recognizing ways we help others experience God's love.
Family Night & Summer Day Camps for Children
During the fall and winter/spring Family Night Series on Wednesday nights, children in the first through fifth grades have the opportunity to participate in missions education classes. Teachers use Spark, a new missions curriculum published by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Each week, children are able to explore the work of missionaries around the world and consider how they too might join the work of sharing God's love.
In addition to the Family Night classes, a series of summer day camps allows children to learn about and work alongside local mission partners.
Mission Trips
Both the Middle School and High School Youth Groups take summer mission trips. These trips provide opportunities for youth to both learn about and participate in the work of Christ.
In Middle School, the trip is planned as an introduction to the work of missions. Youth travel to different destinations each year so that they are exposed to a variety of mission settings as they learn about the work of missionaries in North America and around the world.
In High School, youth typically spend the week working in one location. Youth might find themselves rebuilding homes ravaged by hurricanes, working with terminally ill children, or participating in various ministries in both inner-city and rural locations.
WMU Circles
Currently, there are three WMU (Woman Missionary Union) circles active in our church. These groups gather monthly to learn about and support the work of missions. These circles also provide a wonderful time of fellowship and support for their members.
Baptist Men
Baptist Men gather periodically throughout the year to learn about and support local missions. This group also provides a network through which many needs are met in our own community. Baptist Men have helped remodel apartments at a local shelter, build ramps for homes, and are prepared to travel and offer relief after natural disasters. |
